Josh Pilch and Coy Jensen Death, Obituary, Sagle, Idaho : Beloved Father and Son Died in Tragic Head-On Collision
The Sagle community and surrounding northern Idaho region are mourning the devastating loss of Josh Pilch, 48, and Coy Jensen, 18, who tragically died in a head-on collision on Memorial Day. Their sudden passing has left family members, friends, classmates, and church communities grieving two lives that meant so much to so many.
According to Idaho State Police, the crash occurred Monday afternoon along U.S. Highway 95 south of Sagle near Sandpoint. Authorities reported that a red 2011 Buick LaCrosse driven by Coy Jensen crossed the center line and collided head-on with a northbound Dodge Ram 2500.
Both Coy Jensen and his stepfather, Josh Pilch, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two individuals in the Dodge Ram sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals, with one person airlifted for further medical care.
The tragedy has been especially heartbreaking for those who knew Coy Jensen, as it came just days before his anticipated graduation from Sandpoint High School, where he was set to graduate with high honors. Loved ones shared that he had also been preparing for a two-year mission to Santiago, Chile, with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints later this summer.
Friends and classmates remember Coy as a kind, joyful, and compassionate young man who had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed and valued. He was actively involved in school, athletics, and church life, including participation on the Sandpoint High swim team, and had recently been named Student of the Month. Those close to him describe his laughter, warmth, and caring spirit as unforgettable.
Josh Pilch is being remembered as a devoted father and pillar of his family, known for helping build a loving and supportive home. Friends say he shared many of the same qualities as Coy—kindness, generosity, and a strong commitment to others.
As the community continues to grieve, tributes have poured in honoring both Josh and Coy, reflecting on the profound impact they had on those around them. Though their lives were cut tragically short, their memories will live on in the hearts of family, friends, and all who knew them.
