According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 5:51 a.m. along State Highway 136, south of El Rancho Road. Preliminary reports indicate that a 2016 Ford F-150, driven by a 17-year-old from Amarillo, was traveling northbound in the southbound lane when it collided head-on with a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by Tori, who was traveling in the correct direction.
The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles, and authorities reported that the pickup truck caught fire shortly after the crash. In a courageous act, Good Samaritans rushed to the scene and pulled the injured driver from the burning vehicle, likely saving his life.
Despite the quick response from emergency personnel, Tori Dakota Bunch suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver, identified as Elias Shane Kincanon, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Amarillo, where he remains under medical care.
Investigators also confirmed that a secondary crash occurred shortly after the initial collision when another southbound vehicle struck the disabled pickup truck. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in that second incident.
Officials noted that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time, and road conditions were dry, with cloudy weather reported. Authorities continue to investigate how the pickup truck came to be traveling in the wrong lane.
